Author: Mara Valderran
Publisher: Curiosity Quill Press

Sixteen year-old Madeline has struggled with epilepsy for most of her adolescent life, leaving her something of a social pariah. Things go from bad to worse when she wakes up from her first grand mal seizure in an extremely unfamiliar world but surrounded but familiar faces. Her hometown is in ruins, the aftermath of a Cold War turned hot.
Thomas, the boy that stomped on her heart a year ago, and his brother Brandon have been hiding her away since the explosion that killed her parents. The Lord Commander, now running the southern territories, believes Madeline died with them and the brothers need to keep it that way.
The biggest problem? The explosion happened when she was twelve.

Madeline isn’t sure what to believe. The brothers insist her memories must be of a dream life she created while in her coma. But when she returns to the reality she knows, they insist this war-torn world must be the dream. She doesn’t know if she’s truly caught in the middle of a brewing rebellion or teetering on the brink of insanity. As she finds herself flipping between the two lives, her heart becomes torn between two versions of the same boy and the lines between her realities begin to blur.

My Opinion:

Have you ever fall in love with two different persons that are actually the same person and fall in love with them both in two different times and two different situations?
Well, I didn't thought that was kind of possible but with this book, it just happened.

Have you changed realities and find out that the one where the people you love are dead, the world is chaotic and you seem to be in danger... You find it the right place to stay? I believed that.

Altar of Reality is a very creative story it actually made me question the reality and how attached can someone be to their life or how one event can change all the perception of it.

Its hallucinating how can someone create such an alternate paralel universe but yet so similar to the one you're living.
The world that Mara has created is full of treats. The situations are all ups and downs with more of the second ones.

Mara herself described it the best way:

I felt like I had woken up in some post-apocalyptic video game. -Madeline

Now lets talk about the characters. In the best way I can...

Madeline is this girl who has been diagnosed with Epilepsy. She suffers seizures constantly but something happened. She wakes up in a place she doesn't know. A creepy place indeed.
She is a very strong character who goes through a lot and still keeps on going. Has some kind of normality that is likable, kind of clumsy and yet outstanding. A girl who find the strength in her defects.

Brandon. I'm pretty sure I already have a crush on one brandon and here we go with other two.
Yea. Two. I'll explain myself.
Brandon. Her best friend who always been there. Always being jealous and protective. Yes, he is in love with her. (We all saw that coming right?)
He is this sweet guy who is the support, the shoulder to cry on and the person that understands you the most. He wants Madeline to choose him. And If she doesn't, I do.
And Brandon. The guy that keeps her alive on the other world. I can feel there was something between them. But not really since Its her but not her... (Read it and you'll understand what I mean) Yet, he is more understanding than his other self.

Well. I don't really care. I want both of them for me.

Thomas. I don't like his first version of him. Even though he's got some sweet attitudes and catchy lines. When you read the book, you'll undestand If I call him a Heartbreaker.
He is this playboy with a sweet warm heart inside.
Yet, I wouldn't choose him over Austin or Brandon.

Austin. This guy with his handsome looks, that cocky smirk, amazing eyes and the whole mistery about him... Girl If you don't want that hot mess flirting with you, I DO! I wouldn't mind having him sneaking to my room. (Neither would I If it was Brandon)

Now all I have to say is:
I swear this is NOT the way to finish a book. Its called cliff-hanging and its not fair.
Specially because I don't know when I'll be able to have more of this fascinating story.
I want to know what happened to my boys!

I'll be fair with all of you and I'm going to share some of those catchy lines I liked about this book.

How did you find me here?
I've found you in multiple realities, Madeline

Friends-the kiss of death for my hopeful heart.

Maybe he challenged me because he respected me more than I realized, and had more faith in my intelligence than I did.

I don't know whether or not to hope you're real. My heart breaks at the idea of you being anything but real, because right now, nothing feels more real to me than you.

What I didn't expect was for him to kiss me. And yes, it was definitely a kiss worthy of the pages of a romance novel and then some.

I needed this to be more than just a dream.

Too many lives were at risk for me to make this decision based on my ever-complicated love life.

I highly recommend this book to all Sci-Fi and Young Adult lovers. Specially if you like Distopian genre or you are a new reader.

Its a fast reading, the language is easy to understand, the story is catchy and you won't stop reading it till you finish and suffer with me.
